ALPR HIT FOR A STOLEN VEHICLE RESULTS IN MULTIPLE CHARGES

Three Arrested

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) - The Wellington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three individuals following a traffic stop. 

On October 1, 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, a member of the Wellington County OPP, was conducting proactive patrol when their cruiser’s Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system registered a “hit” on a stolen motor vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Fourth Line in Guelph Eramosa Township.

As a result of the investigation three individuals were placed under arrest.

Ryan MCKAY, a 44-year-old from Wellington North Township, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

MCKAY was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph.

Michael PURCELL, a 43-year-old from Cambridge, has been charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Driving while under suspension

PURCELL was released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on November 7, 2025.

Lastly, Sarah WILBEE, a 39-year-old from Cambridge, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

WILBEE was released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on November 7, 2025.
