(NORFOLK COUNTY) - One person is in custody following an incident involving a barricaded person at a Courtland residence.

On June 21, 2025, at approximately 8:00 pm, members of the Norfolk Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address on Main Street, Courtland.

Police contained the area with the support of the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit.

There was no threat to public safety, however the area was cordoned off for several hours with a road closure in effect but has since re-opened.

Members of the Norfolk OPP Major Crime Unit are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

A 65-year-old resident of Norfolk County was placed under arrest without incident or injury and has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Uttering threats - Cause Bodily Harm or Death
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

The accused remains in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on a later date.
