INDIVIDUAL CHARGED FOLLOWING INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE INVESTIGATION
(BRANT COUNTY, ON) - On June 17, 2025, at approximately 7:34 pm, the Brant County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address in the County of Brant, to a reported assault involving intimate partners.
As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old from Brant County has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault - Spousal
- Mischief - Domestic
The accused is scheduled to appear at a later date in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford, Ontario.
POLICE SEEK SUSPECTS IN THEFT FROM LOCAL BUSINESS
(BRANT COUNTY, ON) - On Friday, June 20, 2025, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Brant County Detachment members responded to a theft report from a local business on Mechanic Street in the County of Brant. It was determined that shortly after 8:00 pm on Thursday June 19, 2025, three individuals entered the business and stole a quantity of liquor before fleeing in a dark-coloured sedan.
$18,500 LOST TO CRYPTOCURRENCY INVESTMENT SCAM
(BRANT COUNTY, ON) - Police are urging the public to exercise extreme caution when considering investment opportunities, following an incident where a community member was defrauded of $18, 500 in a cryptocurrency scam.
At approximately 10:51 am on Monday, June 16, 2025, the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a fraud at a County of Brant address.
It was determined that the victim had responded to an online advertisement promoting an investment opportunity. They were later contacted by someone claiming to be an investor, who encouraged them to invest in cryptocurrency with the promise of significant returns on their initial investment.
Over the course of several months, the victim invested approximately $18, 500 but received no returns. Upon realizing it was a scam, they contacted police.
Frauds and scams are attempted daily through online platforms, phone calls, texts, letters, or faxes. Fraud is a multi-million-dollar enterprise that will only cease when the perpetrators stop profiting.
To avoid falling victim to similar investment scams, follow these key tips:
- Research and verify the legitimacy of investment opportunities and the entities offering them
- Exercise caution when confronted with investments promising high returns with little risk. Overly optimistic claims may signal a potential scam
- Avoid sharing sensitive information with unfamiliar parties
