BREAK AND ENTER INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN CHARGES AGAINST AMARANTH RESIDENT IN SHELBURNE

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) - The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Amaranth resident with break and enter, along with additional offences, following an investigation.

On January 8, 2026, shortly after 2:30 am, Dufferin OPP officers were dispatched to the area of First Avenue and Jelly Street in the Town of Shelburne in response to a commercial alarm at a retail store. The complainant reported that a lone suspect had used a hammer to gain entry to the store and provided a description of the individual.

Due to the quick response, a keen-eyed officer observed an individual matching the suspect description walking along the roadway near the scene. Police were able to identify the individual, resulting in a break and enter investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Andrew BADHRUBARAYAN, a 40-year-old male from Amaranth, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break and enter a place to commit an indictable offence
  • Possession of break-in instruments

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date.

The Dufferin OPP remind residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information, dash camera footage, or security video related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Dufferin OPP.
