CARELESS HANDLING OF FIREARM CHARGE LAID FOLLOWING PUBLIC DISPOSAL

(KENORA, ON)  - On November 22, 2025, members of the Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information regarding several items resembling firearms that had been discarded in a public-access recycling bin. The investigation revealed that several BB guns, along with a firearm, had been dropped off at the public-access recycling bin.

As a result of the investigation, Jean Leon Marion, age 60, of Kenora, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Careless handling of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition, contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date.

The OPP reminds members of the public that firearms must be handled and disposed of safely and in accordance with the law. Improper disposal of firearms poses a significant risk to community safety.

If any member of the public locates a firearm, they are urged to contact the OPP. Members of the public may also contact the OPP for assistance regarding the process of safe disposal of firearms.
