CHARGES LAID AFTER VEHICLE DRIVES PAST ROAD CLOSURE SIGN AT COLLISION SCENE

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) - A Drayton driver is charged after disregarding a road closure sign at a collision scene.

On December 2, 2025, at approximately 10:45 am, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting proactive traffic enforcement at the intersection of Concession Road 8 and Wellington Road 10, outside of Moorefield. Wellington Road 10 was closed at the time, due to a fatal collision that occurred earlier that morning. Despite clearly posted road closure signage, a driver bypassed the barricade and proceeded toward the collision scene.

A 45-year-old from Drayton, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Drive on closed highway

Anyone charged with driving on a closed highway faces a $110 fine and three demerit points. Additionally, if a collision occurs while driving on a closed roadway, the driver’s insurance coverage may be limited or denied.
