(WEST PERTH, ON) - Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two individuals following an investigation into a report of impaired driving in the Municipality of West Perth.

On July 11, 2025 just before midnight, the Perth County OPP attended a local campground regarding a driver who was operating a motor vehicle while impaired. Upon interacting with the driver and passenger, both individuals attempted to flee on foot after the passenger assaulted the responding officers.

Robert BAXTER, 45 years old of Cambridge, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking
  • Failure to Stop for Police - Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Joseph RICHARDSON, 37 years old of St. Mary’s, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

  • Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Assault Peace Officer - Two Counts
  • Resist Peace Officer

Both individuals were held in custody and later released with a scheduled court date of August 11, 2025 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, Ontario.
