COMMUNITY POLICING OFFICE DEDICATION


(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) - The Smith-Ennismore Community Police will be dedicating their office to a retired Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sergeant who passed away in April 2024.

On Thursday October 2, 2025, the Smith-Ennismore Community Police will be dedicating their office, located at 826 Ward Street in Bridgenorth, in the memory of OPP Sergeant Gerry Smith. 

Gerry Smith served as a police officer from November 1987 until his retirement in November of 2017. Sadly, Gerry passed away unexpectedly in April of 2024. Gerry was a huge supporter of the OPP Auxiliary Program, the Cops for Cancer / Pedal for Hope, and the Community Policing Program.

The Smith-Ennismore Community Police will be hosting a short dedication service on Thursday October 2, 2025, at 11:30am in the front parking area of the Community Police Office. The service will include comments from Selwyn Township Mayor, Sherry Senis, Peterborough County OPP Detachment Commander Chris Galeazza, along with family and friends of Gerry’s.

Media and onlookers are welcome to attend. This will be an outdoor event so please dress for the occasion.
