-UPDATE #3- CALEDON OPP INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE IN BOLTON

Revised Timeline for Vaughan Incident

(CALEDON, ON) - Police have released video footage of two suspects and their vehicle and are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a homicide in Bolton and an attempted homicide in Vaughan. Please note: the time of the Vaughan incident has been corrected from 11:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Thursday, November 12, 2020. 

On Thursday, November 12, 2020, at approximately 6:30 pm, members from the York Regional Police (YRP) responded to a shooting on Steeles Avenue West in Vaughan. According to reports, two unidentified individuals exited a white vehicle and shot a male. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment. 

On Monday, January 18, 2021, at approximately 12:30 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a shooting in the area of Harvest Moon Drive, Bolton, in the Town of Caledon. It was reported that two individuals entered a residence and shot two occupants inside the home, one of whom was also the victim in the November 2020 incident in Vaughan. The suspects then fled the scene in a dark-coloured sedan. 

Upon arrival, police officers located one of the occupants suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to hospital for treatment. The second occupant, 65-year-old Giovanni COSTA of Bolton, was located deceased at the scene. 

On Thursday, January 27, 2022, with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, one person was taken into custody in Scarborough and charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

While the first incident was initially investigated by YRP, both incidents are now being investigated by the Caledon OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The Government of the Province of Ontario is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Giovanni COSTA.

“Thanks to several public tips, investigators have identified new leads that are now being actively pursued in the homicide of Giovanni COSTA. While one individual has been arrested, efforts continue to locate two others captured in the released video. A $50,000 reward remains available and we urge anyone with further information to come forward and help bring answers to Giovanni’s family.”
