(QUINTE WEST, ON) - A cyclist has suffered serious injuries in a collision in Quinte West.
It happened on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at about 7:30 am, on County Road 64, between Barcovan Beach Road and Carter Road.
Officers with the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded and found an 87-year-old cyclist had been hurt. The male was transported to hospital with serious and potentially life-altering injuries.
County Road 64 was closed to allow for the investigation but has since reopened. The investigation by the Quinte West OPP, with the assistance of an OPP Technical Collision Investigator, is continuing.
During the on-scene investigation, an individual proceeded to drive past the road closure and marked cruisers with flashing lights activated, coming to a stop in the middle of the collision scene. As a result, a 71-year-old male from Carrying Place was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving on a closed highway.
