(COMBERMERE, ON) - An individual has been arrested after a disturbance on the Madawaska River.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, shortly after 9:00 pm, officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the Combermere area. It had been reported that a male in a peddle boat had been yelling at people at making threats. The disorderly behaviour continued when officers arrived on scene.

An attempt was made to have the individual provide a breath sample with an approved alcohol screening device, but the individual refused.

The 42-year-old male from Madawaska Valley Township was arrested and charged with failure or refusal to comply with the demand for a breath sample. He was transported to the detachment and spent the night in a cell before being released.

The individual is scheduled to appear in court on September 9, 2025

The peddle boat was returned to its owner.
