DRIVER ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED ON HIGHWAY 401


(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired operation.

On July 24, 2025, at around 8:45 am, OPP received a complaint regarding a possible impaired driver on County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope.

Members from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) were patrolling Highway 401 westbound and observed a pick-up truck matching the description provided by the caller.

The vehicle was stopped, and police entered an impaired operation investigation. As a result, the driver was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Ian WILLIAMS (56), from Port Perry, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to a future court date in September, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
