DRIVER CHARGED AFTER A COLLISSION INTO A DITCH


(MARKSTAY-WARREN, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver after investigating a motor vehicle collision into a ditch.

On Saturday September 6, 2025, at approximately 6:30 am, members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Highway 17, Markstay-Warren.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the local hospital by EMS for minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Richard POTVIN, 54 years-of-age, from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday October 1, 2025, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
