(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON)  - The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired operation following a report from a member of the public.

On September 15, 2025, at around 9:15 pm, police responded to a complaint where a motorist was believed to be impaired in a commercial premises parking lot off Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope.

Following speaking with the driver of the passenger vehicle, OPP began an impaired operation investigation which resulted in the person being taken into custody and transported to a detachment for further tests. Further investigation revealed the individual was in breach of court orders.

Paul RENNA (52) from Cambridge, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court - three counts

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
