DRIVER CHARGED WITH REFUSING TO PROVIDE BREATH SAMPLE

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - On Wednesday June 18, 2025, at approximately 7:30 pm, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information regarding a possible impaired driver that was being followed by a fellow motorist.

A citizen had concerns for an individual who they observed leaving an establishment in the Cobourg area, get into a black SUV and drive out of the parking lot proceeding northbound on County Road 45. The concerned citizen called police with descriptors of the SUV and driver while continuing to follow it. The vehicle was observed to have hit the shoulder of the road and almost drive into oncoming traffic. Moments later police located the vehicle in a driveway on Roebuck Road in Baltimore. Officers spoke to an individual which matched the descriptors provided to them, and who identified themselves as the driver of the SUV. An officer made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) Demand; however, the individual refused to provide a sample of the breath into the ASD.

Zsolt Fazekas (age 50) of Washago, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in July 2025.
