DRIVER STOPPED FOR SPEEDING ALSO CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED
(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a motorist with stunt driving and impaired operation.
On January 8, 2026, at approximately 1:30 am, officers were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Brighton when they observed a passenger vehicle travelling at 170 km/h.
The vehicle was stopped, and after speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
MD Tawhidul JOY, 24-years-old, from Scarborough, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in February 2026. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 14-day vehicle impound were also imposed.
