(MELANCTHON TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a homicide in the Township of Melancthon.
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at approximately 8:40 pm, officers from the Dufferin OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in a hotel parking lot in the Township of Melancthon. One person was pronounced deceased.
The deceased has been identified as Garnett (David) WALTERS, 59 years of age from Melancthon.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, Andrae MULLINGS, 34 years of age from Melancthon, has been charged with second degree murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.
The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date.
The investigation is continuing by the Dufferin OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is being provided by the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Central Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to public safety. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
