Fail to Stop Leads to Arrest and Charges in Midland

(MIDLAND, ON)  On January 11, 2026, at approximately 5:00 pm, members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on Yonge Street in the Town of Midland after an Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) system detected a licence plate violation.

The vehicle initially stopped; however, the driver refused to roll down the window or open the door despite repeated requests from the officer. The vehicle then drove away at normal traffic speeds.

Officers followed the vehicle to a nearby grocery store parking lot, where several police cruisers were positioned to prevent the vehicle from leaving. The driver again attempted to flee, striking a police cruiser in the process. Minor damage was reported, and no injuries occurred.

Police were able to safely gain access to the vehicle and arrest the lone female driver. She was transported to the detachment without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old female from Penetanguishene has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
