(Clarington, ON) - Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) - Whitby Detachment, are investigating a three-vehicle collision that resulted in one fatality.

On Monday, September 29, 2025, at 6:01 am, the Whitby OPP were called to a collision on Highway 401 eastbound at Holt Rd, in the Municipality of Clarington.

Highway 401 eastbound at Bowmanville Ave. was closed due to a separate serious motor vehicle collision investigation that occurred earlier. A road closure was in place.

Traffic was stopped and slowing down for the closure, when a commercial motor vehicle rear-ended another commercial motor vehicle. The commercial motor vehicle continued on the right side, sideswiping a third commercial motor vehicle.

The driver of the first commercial motor vehicle a 29-year-old from Brampton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved.

The OPP-HSD Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
