Grey Bruce OPP Arrest Individual Following Counterfeit Currency Investigation
(MEAFORD, ON) - Members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a Meaford resident following an investigation into multiple incidents involving counterfeit currency and other criminal offences.
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, at approximately 12:15 pm, officers conducting proactive bicycle patrols in downtown Meaford observed a male known to police riding a bicycle on the sidewalk along Nelson Street West.
When officers attempted to engage with the accused, he fled on his bicycle. The accused continued to flee on foot. He was eventually located in a wooded area and taken into custody.
Police seized an air pistol.
Joseph DUNN, 34-years-old, of Meaford, is charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault A Peace Officer with a weapon
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Possessing Counterfeit Money (three counts)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Uttering Counterfeit Money (two counts)
The accused was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on June 24, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
