(ESPANOLA, ON)  - One person is facing charges after a traffic stop for stunt driving.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at approximately 10:30 pm, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 17 in the Baldwin Township. A vehicle was observed travelling 104 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone, and a traffic stop to investigate further was initiated. The driver provided a breath sample using an approved screening device (ASD), which registered a FAIL. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation.

The driver, Garry ST-JEAN, 54-years-old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt
  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Breach of probation order
  • Speeding 1-49 km/hr over posted limit
  • Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Drive motor vehicle - no plates
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on November 17, 2025.
