(BRETHOUR TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid several charges following an intimate partner violence investigation.
On Monday, July 21, 2025, at approximately 2:00 pm, officers responded to a report of a possibly armed individual in distress at a residence in Brethour Township, located in the Timiskaming District. During the response, police determined that the individual was also the suspect in an intimate partner violence incident that had occurred at the same location.
OPP units including Emergency Response and Canine teams attended the scene. Upon arrival, the individual had fled the residence. Officers contained the area and later located and apprehended the suspect.
The investigation resulted in an increased police presence in Brethour Township for several hours to ensure public safety and to facilitate the investigation.
As a result, a 24-year-old male from Brethour Township has been charged with the following:
- Assault - spousal - two counts
- Uttering threats - causing death or bodily harm - spousal - two counts
- Assault with a weapon - spousal - two counts
- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Pointing a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
The accused remains in custody, pending an upcoming bail hearing.
