MANDATORY ALCOHOL SCREENING RESULTS IN IMPAIRED ARREST


(LITTLE CURRENT, ON)  - One person is facing impaired-related charges after a traffic stop.

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at approximately 1:00 am, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol on Highway 551 in M’Chigeeng First Nation. Police observed a vehicle that was travelling on Highway 551 turn onto Mnaawnkwad Road, and a traffic stop was initiated. Police conducted Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) on the driver, and as a result, the driver was arrested for impaired operation.

The driver, Diane BEBONING, 43-years-old from M’Chigeeng First Nation, was charged with:

  • Refusal to comply with demand
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available - two counts
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available - two counts

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 24, 2025.
