(ESPANOLA, ON)  - Three people are facing charges after the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from the United Chief and Councils of Manitoulin Police Service Commission (UCCM) canine unit, executed a search warrant.

In the fall of 2025, the Manitoulin OPP received information regarding suspected drug trafficking at a residence in Espanola, and the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) initiated an investigation. On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the OPP CSCU executed a search warrant at a residence on Bois Street in Espanola, with assistance from the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the UCCM canine unit. As a result, three people were arrested.

Additionally, police seized an amount of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $101,500, an amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $5,500, an amount of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $700, approximately $16,700 in Canadian Currency, a taser, and a dirt bike and snowmobile believe to be stolen.

As a result, Johnathon TRUDEAU, 43-years-old from Espanola, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Failure to comply with probation order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Kayla GUY-DENIS, 33-years-old from Espanola, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Failure to comply with probation order
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Kelly GIGNAC, 42-years-old from Espanola, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • Failure to comply with probation order

All three accused were held in custody and appeared before the bail court on December 5, 2025.
