MELANCTHON RESIDENT CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING AFTER UTILITY VEHICLE COLLISION AND REGISTERING OVER TWICE THE LEGAL ALCOHOL LIMIT
(DUFFERIN COUNTY) - Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Melancthon resident with impaired driving-related offences following a collision involving a utility vehicle that was carrying three children.
On June 16, 2025, shortly before 8:30 pm, Dufferin OPP officers responded to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision involving a utility vehicle in the area of 270 Sideroad in the Township of Melancthon. Upon arrival, officers and emergency crews located all involved parties and assessed them for injuries.
During their interaction with the male driver, officers observed signs of impairment and subsequently initiated an impaired driving investigation.
Evan BEARSS, a 38-year-old male, from Melancthon Township has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
Karolina BEARSS, a 39-year-old female, from Melancthon Township has been charged with:
- Obstruct Peace Officer
The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and their vehicle impounded.
