(ORILLIA, ON) - A Mississauga resident is facing criminal charges following a cybercrime investigation.

In May 2023, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Cybercrime Investigations Team (CIT) launched an investigation into fraudulent activity used to access cryptocurrency accounts.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, OPP CIT members executed a search warrant at a residence in Mississauga, where investigators seized multiple electronic devices.

As a result of the investigation, Jun Yi WU, 24 years of age of Mississauga, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Identity theft, section 402.2(1)
  • Fraud, section 380(1)
  • Use of a forged document, section 368(1)
  • Identity fraud, section 403(1)

The accused has been released from custody is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Additionally, the team assists with traditional crimes that have an online element, such as online fraud, harassment and the trade of illegal goods on the dark web.
