MOTORIST CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED


(QUINTE WEST, ON) - The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.

On Friday, October 31, 2025, at approximately 1:00 am, the Quinte West OPP we were conducting R.I.D.E. when a motorist on an electric bike was stopped.

An approved alcohol screening device was utilized, the driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for further testing.

Brandon SMITH, age 22, from Trenton, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 20, 2025. The vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their license suspended for 90 days.

Please remember that an electric bike is considered a “motor vehicle” under the Criminal Code, the rules for blood alcohol levels apply.
