MOTORIST TRAVELLING 75 KM/HR OVER SPEED LIMIT CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING


(ESPANOLA, ON)  - One person has been charged with stunt driving after a traffic stop on Highway 17.

On Monday, September 1, 2025, at approximately 4:30 pm, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrols on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township when they observed a motorist travelling at 165 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone. Police conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested.

As a result, a 17-year-old from Port Hope was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt
  • Speeding 50+ km/h over posted limit
  • Driver fail to surrender licence

The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and the driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on October 9, 2025.
