OFF-ROAD VEHICLE (ORV) CRASH IN HIAWATHA


(HIAWATHA FIRST NATION, ON) - Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews attended the scene of a serious single vehicle collision on Herkimer Point Road.

On Wednesday August 6,2025, shortly after 10:00pm, the Peterborough County OPP received a call related to a single-vehicle collision involving a side-by-side off-road vehicle (ORV). Information received was that the side-by-side was travelling on Herkimer Point road when it lost control and flipped on its side pinning the driver. Two other occupants of the side-by-side exited without injury.

The driver, a 17-year-old female from Hiawatha was transported to a local hospital for treatment but was later airlifted by ORNGE Air to a Toronto area trauma centre.

Herkimer Point Road remained closed for several hours while emergency crews dealt with the collision and officers trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.
