(LANARK COUNTY) - The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Smiths Falls resident with numerous offences after responding to multiple calls for service involving a vehicle in surrounding municipalities.
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, just after 11:00 pm, the OPP was called by Kingston Police to assist in locating a vehicle that had been involved in several collisions in their area. The vehicle was observed in Smiths Falls before it fled.
Just after 4:30 am, the OPP received a call from a resident in the Town of Perth reporting that an individual had stolen his vehicle before crashing it into a pole. The owner was assaulted during the theft. The male then fled in the same vehicle police had been looking for earlier.
A short time later, the OPP was called to a residence just east of Perth for a suspicious male on the property who arrived in the wanted vehicle. Police attended, located and arrested the male.
Brandon Watts-Goveia, 23-years-old, has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Robbery with violence
- Possession of prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
- Trespassing at night
- Flight from a peace officer
- Mischief under $5000
- Failure to comply with a release order - three counts
- Identity theft - obtain or possess another person’s identifying information
- Possession of a stolen credit card
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing and was remanded to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Wednesday, October 1, 2025
