(ELGIN COUNTY, ON)  - The Elgin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be on area roads and highways as part of “Operation Impact”.

The campaign is an annual national traffic safety blitz conducted by police services across Canada over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

“Operation Impact”, which runs from Friday, October 10 until Monday, October 13, 2025, focuses on the leading driving behaviours that contribute to death, injury and property damage on Ontario’s roads and highways:

  • Education and enforcement of Impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs, and fatigue, - Speeding and other forms of aggressive driving
  • Distracted/inattentive driving
  • Driver fatigue
  • Lack of seatbelt use for adults and child car seats

This campaign is essential to achieve safer streets and highways across Canada. It takes place during the long weekend because more people are travelling, and collisions are therefore more frequent.
