OPP ASSISTS WITH DEATH INVESTIGATION ON WALPOLE ISLAND
(WALPOLE ISLAND FIRST NATION, ON) - The Walpole Island Police Service (WIPS), with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), is investigating a death that occurred on Squirrel Island Road.
On Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 8:05 am, members of WIPS and Lambton OPP responded to a disturbance involving a firearm on Squirrel Island Road, Walpole Island First Nation. Upon police arrival, officers located an individual with apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim, a 29-year-old individual of Walpole Island First Nation, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As a result, one individual has been taken into custody without incident. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
There is no additional threat to public safety.
