OPP INVESTIGATING COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 401 NEAR GRAFTON


(TOWNSHIP OF ALNWICK/HALDIMAND, ON)  - Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 401 near Grafton.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, shortly after 10:00 pm, officers were notified of a collision involving three passenger vehicles on Highway 401 westbound, east of the Lyle Street overpass. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the local Fire Department also responded to the scene.

One passenger was transported to a Toronto-area hospital by Air ORNGE with life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the collision, Highway 401 westbound was closed from County Road 25 in Colborne. Members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team attended to assist with the investigation.

While the highway was closed, a 24-year-old male driver from Brampton entered the closed section and was subsequently stopped by police. The individual was charged with:

  • Careless Driving

The highway was reopened shortly after 6:00 am on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
