OPP Appealing for Witnesses and Information

(IGNACE, ON) - The Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal incident that occurred on Highway 599, north of Ignace.

Shortly before 6:00 am on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, emergency services responded to reports from passing motorists of an individual lying in the northbound lane. A 48-year-old male from Ignace was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As part of the investigation, Highway 599 was closed in both directions between Highway 17 and Highway 642 for several hours. The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team and the OPP Dryden Crime Unit.
