(SUDBURY, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently seeking the public assistance in a robbery investigation.
On Friday July 4, 2025, at approximately 11:30 pm, the Nipissing West OPP responded to a robbery which occurred on the bypass from Lively to Chelmsford, within the City of Greater Sudbury.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a vehicle was traveling north on Highway 144, towards Chelmsford, when another vehicle approached from behind and began flashing its high beams. The victim pulled over and stopped on the shoulder, with the suspect vehicle stopping behind.
The driver of the suspect vehicle remained inside, while the passenger approached the victim to advise of a problem with the taillight. When the victim exited their vehicle to inspect the taillight, the passenger brandished a knife, demanding the victim’s purse and removing all cash and some personal belongings.
Due to the high beams, the victim was unable to clearly see the driver, and the passenger who brandished the knife was described as:
- Indigenous male
- Short hair
- Wearing a white crewneck sweater
No injuries were reported, and the suspects left the scene in a vehicle described as a dark blue or black hatchback.
The OPP would like to advise motorist that, if you notice a suspicious vehicle following you day or night:
- Stay calm and keep driving to a safe, well-lit, and populated area
- Avoid stopping or going home
- If possible, drive directly to a police station
