(ATIKOKAN, ON) - An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a rural residence on Nickleby Lake Road east of Atikokan.
On May 29, 2025, at approximately 11:00 am, the Atikokan Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Niobe Lake Fire Department, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry - Fire, Aviation and Emergency Services Branch responded to a residential structural fire on Nickleby Lake Road.
No one was injured in the fire that destroyed the residence and threatened the surrounding forested area. The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) attended the scene. Foul play cannot be ruled out.
The investigation is continuing by the Atikokan OPP with the assistance of the Rainy River District Detachment OPP Crime Unit.
