(ESPANOLA, ON)  - One person has been arrested and is facing impaired-related charges.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, at approximately 11:30 pm, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check at the intersection of Highway 6 and Old Webbwood Road, in the Town of Espanola. A vehicle came through the RIDE, and upon interacting with the driver, police observed signs that the driver may be under the influence of an intoxicating substance. As a result of further investigation, the driver was arrested for impaired operation.

The driver, Carl NANIBUSH, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 7, 2025.
