(WEST PERTH, ON) - Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with multiple offences during a RIDE program in the Municipality of West Perth.

On June 23, 2025 shortly after 11:00 pm the Perth County OPP were conducting a RIDE program at the intersection of Perth Road 164 and Perth Line 20 when they observed a vehicle attempting to avoid police.

The vehicle was stopped and as a result, 19-year-old Riya BHATT of Brampton was charged with the following offences:

• Operation while Impaired, Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Operation while Impaired - Over 80, Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Novice Driver B.A.C above zero, Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
• Care or Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, Contrary to the Cannabis Control Act 2017

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Stratford on August 11, 2025.
