SEVEN CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges a young driver with several provincial offences.

On August 16, 2025, at approximately 9:30 pm, members of the Wellington County OPP were performing a traffic enforcement initiative and observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, which lead to a traffic stop being initiated on Wellington Road 17 in Mapleton Township. An abundance of alcohol was located within the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old from Arthur, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence and Control Act with:

  • Young Driver - Blood alcohol concentration above zero
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Drive Motor Vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed
  • Drive with windshield coated - view obstruction
  • Entire plate not plainly visible
  • Improper mudguards

The alcohol was seized. As per statute, the driver received a 30-day and a 3-day license suspension and their vehicle was impounded for a period of 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court - Guelph, at a later date.
