SIOUX LOOKOUT OPP INVESTIGATES DEATH OF INFANT
(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) - Members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in relation to an infant death investigation.
On Friday, May 9, 2025, just before 8:00 am CDT, Sioux Lookout OPP officers responded to a call on Sturgeon River Road regarding an unresponsive five-month-old. The infant was transported to hospital by emergency medical services and later pronounced deceased.
As a result of the investigation, Shoshonee BEARDY, 26 years old from Sandy Lake First Nation, has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Second degree murder, section 235 (1)
- Fail to provide the necessaries of life, section 215 (2)(a)
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear virtually before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
