Charges Laid
(COLLINGWOOD, ON) - Charges have been laid in connection with an incident in which the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate in Collingwood.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 5:00 pm, officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Rhonda Road. As a result of the police interaction, the SIU invoked its mandate.
Following the police investigation, Ronald MITCHELL, 50 years old of Collingwood, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Assault a peace officer with a weapon or causing bodily harm, section 270.01(1)(a) - two counts
- Pointing a firearm, section 87
- Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88
- Mischief endangering life, section 430(2)
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on June 4, 2025.
