SIX VEHICLE COLLISION CAUSED BY VEHICLE CROSSING INTO ONCOMING LANES RESULTS IN FATALITY
(NIAGARA, ON) - Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) - Niagara Detachment are investigating a six-vehicle collision caused by a vehicle crossing over into the oncoming lanes that resulted in a fatality to the driver of the vehicle that crossed over.
At approximately 6:45 am on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, a vehicle travelling southbound on highway 406 near highway 58 in Thorold, Ontario, for unknown reasons, lost control and crossed the centre median into the northbound lanes and was struck by a northbound vehicle. Four other vehicles were struck or hit by debris from the collision. Emergency services attended the scene and the driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old male from St. Catharines, the lone occupant, suffered critical injuries and was subsequently declared deceased at the scene.
The occupants of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries and remained on scene.
The OPP-HSD Traffic Support Unit attended to complete a thorough technical/reconstructive motor vehicle investigation of the scene. Highway 406 and various ramps in the area were closed in both directions for approximately five hours for the collision investigation and cleanup.
No charges are expected, and the investigation is ongoing.
