A Continued Plea for Information
(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) - The Elgin County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the family of Sonya CYWINK continue to plea for public assistance to find the person(s) responsible for her death 31 years ago.
August 30, 2025, marks 31 years since the discovery of 31-year-old Sonya CYWINK’s remains at the Southwold Earthworks National Historic Site of Canada located near Iona in Elgin County, southwest of the City of London.
Sonya was originally from Whitefish River First Nation on Manitoulin Island and lived in the east end of London at the time of her death. She was last seen alive near the intersection of Dundas Street and Lyle Street in London, Ontario at approximately 2:00 am on Friday, August 26,1994.
The Government of the Province of Ontario and the family of Sonya CYWINK are offering a reward of $60,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her murder.
The Elgin County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), continues to investigate and follow up on all information and tips received.
