(ORILLIA, ON) - Five individuals have been arrested in relation to a kidnapping and attempted homicide investigation in the City of Orillia.

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, shortly after 9:10 pm, officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle and individuals wearing masks near an abandoned building on Colborne Street East in the City of Orillia. 

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male inside the abandoned building suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

With assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team, Tactical Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, Aviation Services and the Orillia Major Crime Unit, officers arrested five individuals inside the building.

These five individuals were charged as a result of the investigation. The accused are:

  • Manraj MANN, age 31 of Brampton
  • Surjit Singh BAINS, age 62 of Woodbridge
  • Gergy Anthony GORBURN, age 51 of Toronto
  • Dwayne PENNANT, age 41 of Brampton
  • Baltej SANDHU, age 30 of Brampton

They are each charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Attempt to commit murder - section 239(1)(b)
  • Kidnapping - section 279(1)(a)
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm - section 95(1)
  • Break, enter a place, commit indictable offence - section 348(1)(b)
  • Forcible confinement - section 279(2)
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited or restricted firearm - section 91(1)
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose - section 88
  • Uttering threats, cause death or bodily harm - section 264.1(1)(a)
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition - section 86(1)

All five accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
