SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE LEADS TO INTIMATE PARTNER AND WEAPONS CHARGES

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) - Suspicious vehicle leads to Intimate partner and weapons investigation in Bayham Township.

On June 13, 2025, at 11:17 pm, a member of the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol on Nova Scotia Line in Bayham Township, observed a suspicious vehicle stationary in a parking lot.

A traffic stop was initiated at which time the driver was placed under arrest.

A loaded firearm was observed and seized from within the vehicle.

Investigation revealed the passenger was being held against their will.

As a result, a 46-year-old of no fixed address has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Firearm - Use while committing offence
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
  • Forcible Confinement

The accused was held for bail.

The victim was not injured.
