THIEVES TARGET LOCAL CEMETERIES FOR ITEMS CONTAINING BRASS AND BRONZE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) - The Norfolk County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after receiving multiple reports of thefts from local cemeteries.

Since last week, several incidents have been reported at the following cemeteries:

  • Bayview Cemetery in Port Rowan
  • Sacred Heart Cemetery in Langton
  • Port Dover Cemetery
  • Delhi Cemetery

The investigation has determined that unidentified individuals are targeting items containing brass and bronze, including nameplates, screws, and in one case, an urn.

“These acts are deeply concerning and cause additional hardship for families already dealing with the loss of loved ones. We are asking the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity near cemeteries immediately.” - Constable Andrew Gamble, Community Engagement Officer, Norfolk County OPP.
