TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGE


(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION ON) - Driver facing impaired charge after traffic complaint in Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation.

On July 24, 2025, at 3:44 pm, members of the Oneida Nation Police Service and the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police, were dispatched to a traffic complaint on Fairgrounds Road in Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation for the report of a possible impaired driver.

The vehicle was located on River Road, at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment.

As a result, Michael NICHOLAS, a 68-year-old of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired - Alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code (four counts)
  • Driving while under suspension (six counts)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on September 10, 2025.
