(LEAMINGTON, ON) - A member of the Leamington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment observed a vehicle without proper headlights.
On October 19, 2025, at approximately 9:40 pm, an officer was on patrol on Erie Street South in the Municipality of Leamington, when they observed a motor vehicle operating with headlights.
As the officer conducted a traffic stop by activating their emergency lights, the driver continued through an intersection controlled by a stop sign and almost struck another vehicle.
Upon speaking to the driver, the officer detected signs of impairment. As a result, driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
As a result, Cesar CUBIAS-GONZALEZ, a 40-year-old of Leamington was charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Dangerous Operation
- Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
The accused is also facing an additional 11 charges under the Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Control Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act including:
- Disobey Stop Sign Fail to stop
- Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled the appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on November 4, 2025.
A 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension was issued and vehicle impounded for 45 days as per statue.
