TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

(WASAGA BEACH, ON)  - The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual with impaired driving related charges after an officer stopped an e-bike while on general patrol.

On June 18, 2025, shortly after 9:00 pm, Huronia West OPP officers were conducting general patrol on Golf Course Road in the town of Wasaga Beach. Officers stopped an e-bike driver for improperly wearing a helmet and missing equipment. During the interaction, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest. As a result of the investigation, Michael SOUTH, 43-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

  • Adult Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand
  • Adult Fail to Wear Proper Helmet on Power Assisted Bicycle (HTA)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Collingwood on July 22, 2025, to answer to the charges.
