TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN CHARGES

11 Charges Laid

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - A local business and driver are charged following a traffic stop.

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 12:45 pm, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit conducting proactive traffic enforcement within Wellington County and initiated a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) on Wellington Road 26 within Centre Wellington.

As a result of their inspection of the CMV, a Fergus business, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Permit operation of unsafe combination of vehicles - commercial motor vehicle
  • Permit operation of vehicle - fail to display inspection sticker or proof
  • Operate commercial motor vehicle - no valid CVOR certificate
  • Fail to ensure daily inspection log is conducted properly
  • Fail to ensure performance standards are met
  • Permit operation of commercial motor vehicle with load not secured as prescribed

The accused business is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court - Guelph on a later date.

A 46-year-old from Elora is also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operate unsafe combination of vehicles - commercial motor vehicle
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle - improper licence
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in drawn vehicle
  • Improperly drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in drawn vehicle
  • Improper tires - drawn vehicle - commercial motor vehicle (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph at a later date.
